    If you watch John Daly you can see his club actually going down which means very long arc. This physics principle momentum has an example like the long blow gun that the brazilian primitives use to hunt. Why not only a 1 or 2 feet long blow gun. THE LONGER A FORCE IS ACTING TO MOVE AN OBJECT THE MORE MOMENTUM IT PRODUCES ON THAT OBJECT. In the blow gun the force of the puff is exerting on the dart for a longer distance much like the principle of the long barrel rifle.

    All you have to watch is Bobby Jones technique to discard that wrong notion of X-factor.His hips turned as much as his shoulder and he could hit 270 yards with the old driver with only probably 43 inches in length. The Physics principles are very easy to understand if you finished high school physics. They are MOMENTUM, MOMENT ARM AND SUMMATION OF FORCES. Just try to contact me if you need explanations.

    @sammyj2000 Actually you can jump higher whn you crouch because you can increase muscle contraction when you crouch. By acting as elastics means that when you extend your elbow by triceps contraction,as soon as your triceps would relax your elbow would enter into flexion by biceps action.

    @gpduartecosta The golf swing is the exact same. If we did not need to create tension in the form of a stretch between the upper body and the lower body to hit the ball a significant distance why would you even have a backswing? would it not make more sense to start with the club above your head in a perfect position?

    @gpduartecosta I Beg to differ; Of course muscles act like elastic, it is well documented in research all over the world. It is called the stretch shortening cycle! This is the reason you can jump higher when you crouch down and explode up than you can if you perform a standing jump.

    As an osteopath I say this makes no sense at all. Muscles aren’t like elastics. You should turn your pelvis. By doing this you can turn your torso even more. The active part of the swing ir when you “explode” from the pelvis – like a boxer – and the club fallows that movements.
    If you dont use the pelvis and use only the lumbar spline you are a good candidate for an hernia or sliped disc.

    This is correct, but make any down swings with that thing between your legs or it you will come over the top severely. I like to have my belt buckle pointed at my right knee at the top of my full back swing. Then start my down swing by moving my right knee towards my left knee and rotating my left knee into the outside of my left heel at the same time. It’ll give you a lot of torque and leverage which is distance.

    get some distance by increaseing strength in the forearm muscle and practiceing maintaining the right angle in the wrist left forearm longer , flexability is big also as we get older helps us get the club on plane ,the right grip and release will greatly help check it out at hitmanhawky best lessons on the tube thanks

    “X-factor” should be thought to be applied to the downswing instead of the backswing. Meaning on the downswing, the hips lead the shoulders, and the shoulders lead the arms. In this way, you do create torque.

    Giving a full turn on the backswing, again, will ensure that you are in a great position to do so.

    Actually, proper timing on the release or “lag” of the clubhead behind the hands is what will primarily create faster clubhead speed (meaning more distance). Creating a full turn in the backswing will put your body into a more powerful position to come back to the ball. Obviously the shoulders will rotate more than hips.

    He is a top pro instructor with a handicap of 0 both right and left handed. His other vids are great as well.

    I agree this very much like the “X-factor” too much restriction of hips which will result in more distanct, but at the expense of the lower back.

    No doubt. In this month’s Golf Digest, Jim McLean has a piece detailing what he calls ‘V Factor’; (clubshaft angle at the 1/2 way back position vs. clubshaft angle at the 1/2 way down position) and it’s correlation to power. Bubba Watson, the longest hitter, statistically, on Tour, has the most ‘V Factor’ differential. Most recreational players would get more distance just by hitting the ball closer to the middle of the face while it’s relatively square to the path, but that’s another story.

    Jack Nicklaus would be a better example of what you’re describing. Please, however, do not use Bubba Watson and successfully in the same sentence. Yeah, he hits it long, but I don’t see him racking up many (any) wins. In fact, Bubba Watson would probably benefit from this very tip. Shorten his swing a little and gain some control.

    Agreed. Completely unscientific golf tip here. Clearly, the addition of the speed of the hip turn to the speed of the shoulder turn will produce a faster swing than shoulder turn alone. Watch bubba watson, he corkscrews his whole body, then uncorks everything in unison.. clearly successfully, too

    This is still the old “X Factor” methodology. Now, the more common technique is to produce a full body turn to put yourself into a powerful position to swing through the ball.

    this is pointless for high handicappers. the idea for beginners and intermediate players is to have a smooth swing. imagining that your swinging and the ball is in the way of your swing. many professionals have different techniques similar to this but they HIT the ball and their swing revolves around clubhead speed ect where as an amateur just swings the club smoothly. good tecnique for low hadicapped players though.

    Is the driver swing any more flat than an iron swing.I hit my irons really well.My driver is another story ,I’m either bombing it 280 or I could top the ball or drop kick it.

    i had the tendency to hit my driver all over the map. I actually came up with a way to stop both from occuring by doing a few simple things. I would first take swings with my driver where i would bring the club barely past my waist and only try to hit the ball maybe 60-80 yards. Once i started hitting those straight i would bring it back to my shoulders and so on until i created consistency. When i got to my full swing, I made sure my entire swing was very slow. This gave me that consistency

    I have also just recently started hovering the driver, not so much to avoid pebbles or tees, though that is very true – I feel that it it lends itself to a better setup and take-away position, and also to a better tempo to the swing.

    @ThePuzzler96 Yes, your path is going way out to the right. The ball will always curve away from your path during impact.

    I’m left handed and every time I drive, my ball curves way to the left. I’ve been following all the instructions right but I still cant get a straight shot. Anyone have any Idea whats wrong?

    @ward185 3 inches may be a bit too much, but yes you should get longer clubs if you are a taller person. You should not have to bend at the waist or knees excessively just to get the sole of the club flat on the ground.

    I am 6′4″,longer clubs would definitly feel more comfortable.But I didnt think custom clubs varied in length that much.Are you saying my irons may need to be 3 inches longer than a shorter mans irons.If you could clear this up for me I would be grateful,Thanks

    Remember, golf is a game of preference and consistency, he prefers hovering the driver because it works and shows consistency for him, and i prefer grounding the driver because it has done the same, Make small changes in the swing, not big ones :)

    I just started playing and the clubs i have are the 2,3,4,5,7,9 irons. theyre used and im a tall guy, 6′ 1″. i top the ball alot, ive been bending my knees and it helps, but my knees and legs are damaged. Would longer clubs work better? any tips for a beginner? thank you
