Golf Tip: The Basic Pitch; Hank Haney

Open the club face at set up and during your backswing and turn your body slightly through impact Hank Haney: Listed as one of Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers Golf Digest’s #4 instructor in the world; Instructor to PGA Tour Professionals Tiger Woods and Mark O’Meara; 1993 PGA of America Teacher of the Year

A great clip of Fred Astaire dancing and playing golf at the same time. It takes great balance to achieve this and also the firm planting of the left foot prior to the start of the downswing. Listen and you will hear the tap of the plant and then the start of the downswing. The original Happy Gilmour???

    @SirFreezie hahaha

  3. beergut111 says:

@ITZUNTOUCHED135 you can only have 14 clubs, read the rules. you would have to remove a fairway wood or something to haul a lob wedge. Whatever you can do with a lob wedge you can do with a SW. want a 60 degree wedge? open up a SW to 60 degrees.

@SirFreezie Never say never, for Nick Faldo shows much promise. Is there any reason why he can’t reach the heights of the best?

  5. mario1921ful says:

    Good lesson!

  6. GLAUB56544 says:

I believe a lob wedge would commonly be a golfers’ most lofted club

    @dowling1981

  10. ITZUNTOUCHED135 says:

  11. dowling1981 says:

@SirFreezie Is it true that Nick Faldo is due to become the next Tiger Woods?

  12. SirFreezie says:

    @gmonkey808
first of all idk if you fixed it but oh well.
its because you leave the club face open on impact maybe because your grip is too tight or its your swing path try taking it inside more and throwing your hands through faster..
    hope this helps

  13. PJ22O says:

@gmonkey808 that happens all the time to me 2

  14. gmonkey808 says:

Hi. Great advice. My shots in general seem to always go right of target. Even small pitch shots like this one. My grip seems ok but i think its an impact problem. Doesnt seem to slice just straight right. Have you come across this in any of your students? Any of your videos help this???? Please help me !!!!!

Hank Haney can you take a look at my pitch shot and my chip shot at golfgamer88? I’d like to know if i’m doing it right. Thanks! I will wait for your comments.

notice that he moves his hands back to 1/2 way…then all he does is turn his hips (just the hips) this drops the head of the club right on the ball ..popping it up softly. that is all there is to it. try this. …to get the feel for what i am saying..take your club and put it right out in front of you…turn your shoulders ONLY …no hips. now turn your hips left and see that you will end in a nice follow through position. now do this same thing but at the ball …great feel..great results

this is pretty much the exact opposite of what tom watson teaches in his book 40 yards and in. tom’s book helped my game tremendously. i think i will stick with lessons from the guys who actually play the game, not the guy who wishes he was tiger

True Golfers play every week if they have time.

  21. secrettogolf says:

the biggest mistake he made when teching Barkley was letting hit the ball,in practice even when he did hid patented dip.He was rewarded for making his biggest mistake Psych 101 not goo teaching.

  22. apeklong says:

    is that good?

  23. acershund says:

That’s ‘cuz Barkley is a DUNCE

  24. smithersandburns says:

Did you see him fail tremendously at helping Charles Barkley? 9 months of working with him and he didn’t get better at all.

  25. baseballjock30 says:

Lmao i love the people that say hank is wrong. He’s been playing/teaching golf a lot longer than most of us. Oh and the fact that he’s one of Tiger’s coaches but he is obviously wrong.

  26. darrennorton36 says:

WOAH! This guy could win a Major for fun!

  27. Gorski213 says:

I show this clip to the javelin throwers I coach to let them see real rhythm in action. Talk about correct application of forces in a relaxed manner!

  28. einoora says:

  34. wennieJay says:

    Pure Greatness !

  35. lagpressure says:

Fred had a great golf swing..
His use of vertical and horizontal ground pressures is better than most tour pros we see today. The heavier clubs of the past required more force grounding into the feet, and who better to do that than Astaire!

    Bravo Great One!

  36. onebaud says:

Tiger could not do this. But no one else can either. Fred was one of a kind and has no equal. I miss him along with a slew of others.

  37. Mi5oMi6o says:

Thats is bloody brilliant..I love how he really gets his front heel lifted and then plants it down through impact…

For sure that should be a NIKE commercial.

  38. Seattle470 says:

    Tiger who???
THAT, my friends, should be a Nike commercial!

  39. GhostofAutumn says:

It’s still not as impressive as that video of Milton Berle hitting a ball WITHOUT a club.

  40. bobebrownmaui says:

    Amazing!!!!

  41. jnkhd says:

    Talk about poetry in motion!

  42. YouzTube99 says:

This is one time when the overused word “amazing” really applies! Yet another demonstration of Astaire’s perfect coordination and sense of rhythm. And NO cgi . . .

BTW, YouTube resolution is too low to show it but when he’s driving that series of balls at the end, he is really booming them. Mr. Astaire loved to play The Game.

  43. henrywkelly says:

    legend

  44. lpgahf9 says:

Stunning … and clever too! Wonder if Tiger could do this?

  45. ledgeie says:

    WOW

  46. Rudis66 says:
